Why does the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors (Susan Ellenberg, Otto Lee, Sylvia Arenas, Joe Simitian and the infamous Cindy Chavez) refuse to acknowledge the County Airport Commission and any of their Letters of Transmittal? Taking an anti General Aviation stance works very well in terms of pandering for votes in the non-pilot demographic.
While the Board may act like petulant children with their fingers in their ears, screaming “La-la-la-la, I can’t hear you!”, the issues are important. The letters date back to September 2023.
The Letters of Transmittal are entitled:
- Compliance with commission by-laws (September 2023 and December 2023)
- Lead studies at Reid-Hillview Airport (October 2023)
- Acceptance of Jacobs Engineering study (which refutes a biased and wildly incorrect Zahran report) (December 2023)
- Santa Clara County Advanced Air Mobility Plan (February 2024)
- Reactivation of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission Regional Airport Planning Committee (February 2024)
- Lack of communication between BOS and Airports Commission (February 2024)
The BoS need to stop obstructing the Airport Commission and allow them to do the job they’ve been entrusted with.
